I bought first graphic novel by Aron McCruder in 2008 in Bleaker Street New York. The books title is controversial so I might go into that a later date.
My next purchase was the Watchman By Alan Moore. From purchasing these two book, I was hooked on buying graphic novels for a but 2 or 3 years, until my budget said, "OK. That's enough"🤨.
But it wasn't. I am good managing money on a frugal self-employed artist's budget, however, I am a compulsive enthusiast of objects that help to understand story. My last holiday was in 2009 to Brazil, it was this trip that help reimagine my life as a poet and al over of all art in all its mediums and forms. I am prepared to sacrifice a vacations to learn.
This is one of the reasons I have created the Poetry ART Story Collection of course of which Comic Sequential Art and Poetry is one.
I been really enjoying going back into the archive of my collection of diverse graphic novels.
You might recognise Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi which was turned into a brilliant full length film animation.
The Aya of Yop City by Magurite Abouet is hilarious with well rounded complex characters that really keep you engaged as a reader.
The Watchmen? An Alan Moore classic. Nuff said. Watch a succinct YouTube short about the graphic novel if you haven't already seen the movie HERE.
Tokyo on Foot is a humorous and detailed collection of colour pencil drawings a daily journaling practice.
Something I am familiar with doing as a way to break the (sometimes) monotony of diary writing. No offence to those who write words daily. I just happen to love doodling. More on that later.
If you like comics, visual narrative or graphic novels, join me on the 6 week course I've curated called Comic Sequential Art Story and Poetry on Friday 30th August, 7pm GMT.
